. thank you. >> let's talk start with hagel. by most accounts, chuck hagel had a shaky day at the confirmation hearing and surprising even some democrats with the answers and nonanswers. how do you think he did and do you ultimately expect he'll get confirmed? >> well, his presentation was spot on but that said i'm not always spot on when i do these interviews either. it's whether the substance was there or not and there's three important issues clear out of that hearing and why he'll go through the nomination process successfully. first, he said he will defend israel. second, iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. and third, he is leader to transform our military, both for moving from southwest asia to the western pacific where 60% of the naichl forces are moved for a reason and second to transform our military to the new type of warfare where often based upon knowledge and the agility and speed to touch someone quickly. this also is necessary in the western pacific where china, for example, has 80 sub marines just to our 50. even john mccain who was quite critical in the hear

president obama's nominee to be the new secretary of defense, chuck hagel. whether or not they filibuster him that. >> don't have the votes, although at least one republican senator is threatening to try a filibuster anyway. senator lindsey graham of south carolina is also now threatening to put a hold on the hagel nomination, even though there is no precedent for that ever. no cabinet nomination has ever been filibustered or held by a senator. while lindsey graham is making the decision as to whether or not he wants to be famous forever for doing something nobody else has ever done in the history of the senate in order to block chuck hagel, the current defense secretary leon panetta is on his way out. they gave mr. panetta his sendoff on saturday, though it looks like he'll probably be in charge for another week or so. his time has been a period of lasting change for the u.s. military. after the end of the iraq war, he has overseen the beginning of the end of america's longest war ever in afghanistan. the clinton era policy of "don't ask, don't tell" ended under leon panetta's watch, at

that they confirm chuck hagel. some republicans have said they're going to walk out on the committee members. they're going to walk out. what's the latest? >> the republican aides who spoke to politico said republicans will walk out. we called the republicans. said are you going to walk out? spoke to crews who were on the committee. they said we're not walking out. they're not going to vote for him but they're not going to walk out. it looks like he will have the votes in committee. it will move out into the senate. but you always have a possibility of something happening. senator inhoff from oklahoma said he might put a hold or he might try to delay the confirmation. you certainly saw lindsey graham on sunday say until he finds out what the president had for breakfast on the morning of the benghazi attacks, he will put a hold on everything and then some. it is unclear what the final confirmation is but it is a step forward at 2:30. >> bill: if they call a filibuster and john mccain said he would not support a filibuster, it looks like there would be 60 votes to stop the filibuster. >> that's righ
